Sports Snapshot: Cross-Country + Interview w/ Team Coach Mr. Knoll

By: Vanessa Giang and Raelene Yang

The crisp air and crinkly leaves of the fall season created the perfect atmosphere for cross country running. Westmount’s cross country team was mainly comprised of middle school students as only one high school student participated. The coach, Mr. Knoll, “enjoy[s] running and racing, which makes him the perfect person for the team. During the League Championship, girls in Grade 6 performed exceptionally well and won the Girls Elementary Banner. Mr. Knoll believes that the League Championship “was really well attended and [the] runners did great”. Though the cross country running season is short, hopefully more people participate on the team since running is an amazing way to ease the stress of starting a new school year.

Interview with Mr. Knoll, Cross Country Coach

Do you have any highlights from this season that you would like to share?

A major highlight of the year is our League Championship meet. Our grade six girls contributed to our victory in the Girls Elementary Banner victory. It was a great meet that was really well attended, and our runners did great.

How was the turnout of the cross country team compared to last year?

Our turnout for runners is less than 2022, likely by about 10-12 runners. I am quite sad about the high school turnout, only one runner on our official roster.

Why do you coach cross country?

I coach cross country running because I really enjoy running and racing, and feel that I have something to offer to the kids.
